ÖØ¿ÚζSM University at Shrivenham pre-arrival information

If you are due to formally register at ÖØ¿ÚζSM University at Shrivenham, please ensure that that you have completed the following prior to your registration date:

  • Completed your online registration task through The task will be sent to you prior to your registration date, normally after all conditions of your offer have been met;
  • Organised your ATAS certificate (if required);
  • Organised your visa (if required);
  • Sent any outstanding documentation to meet the requirements of your offer;
  • Submitted BPSS form and related documentation (if required).

Arriving at Shrivenham

On arrival at the main Visitor Reception Centre (postcode SN6 8TS) you will be asked to produce photo ID (passport, UK photo driving licence, government ID card or similar). You will be issued with a temporary pass to allow you access. Please allow plenty of time for this as there may be queues.

Serving military personnel sponsored by their respective service (UK and international) may be expected to wear military dress during the working day as if in their parent unit. Please refer to your joining instructions to see if this is applicable to you.

Registration

You must complete your online registration via EVE before arrival. You will need to bring your passport and, if required, any visa documentation to complete your registration in person. We must view these documents in person, even if you have previously uploaded them.

Please note that we cannot accept MOD ID as photo ID for the purposes of registration.

Any outstanding conditions to your offer must be uploaded to your application record prior to arrival as they need to go through the appropriate approval process before the condition is met and we can fully register you. If you have any conditions of your offer outstanding on the date you register, we may be able to temporarily register you. This will be explained to you by the registration team and may affect your site access.

Visas and immigration

At the registration event you will need to bring the following documents with you (even if you have already uploaded them previously):

  • Passport
  • BRP card or evidence of your digital immigration status

If you been given digital immigration status (eVisa), or you have status under the EU Settlement Scheme, we need to verify the status you have been granted. Depending on your circumstances, you need to take one the following actions:

  • If you are on a Student visa, please generate a 'share code' for ÖØ¿ÚζSM/Education purposes and upload it to CAS Shield (Enroly). If you have not already uploaded your ‘share code’ to CAS Shield (Enroly), please bring your valid ‘share code’ with you to your registration event
  • If you have status under the EU Settlement Scheme or any other visa category, please generate a 'share code' for ÖØ¿ÚζSM/Education purposes and bring this valid ‘share code’ with you to your registration event.
  • For other visa categories, please either follow the instructions above and provide your ‘share code’ at registration or bring your BRP card and/or visa to your registration event.

BPSS Clearance

Courses that are wholly or partially delivered at the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom, Shrivenham which is a Ministry of Defence (MoD) site, require all applicants to hold a security clearance to UK Government’s Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) level or higher. Applicants who do not hold this level of security will be asked to complete a BPSS clearance application.

BPSS checks may involve confirmation of the following:

  • Identity (such as photo ID),
  • Nationality, including dual and immigration status,
  • Employment/academic history (covering the past three years),
  • Criminal record (unspent convictions only).

We will need to verify your relevant documents online prior to your start date, and in person, on your registration day. It will take additional time to process your BPSS clearance application once you have completed your course application. This process may be revised from time to time dependent on national security requirements. For more details, please consult the .

PLEASE NOTE: The MoD has ultimate discretion over admission to the Shrivenham site. If you are not able to access the Shrivenham site because of a failure to meet security clearance requirements, your application to attend your programme of study will be declined.

Ten top arrival preparation tips for overseas students

The Home Office Border Force has produced a helpful list of ten top tips for first time students arriving to commence their studies in the UK. The tips are designed to ensure that you are not unduly delayed as you enter the UK by helping you prepare for what you may need to present at border control.

Follow these top tips for a smooth journey through the UK border:

  1. If you’re from a non (EEA) country, complete the landing card given to you during your flight before you arrive at border control.
  2. Have your passport ready. Remove it from any cover, and remember to remove sunglasses and hats.
  3. Keep information about the course you’re studying in your hand luggage. This must be in paper copy (not an electronic copy on tablet or phone). This includes your university Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) number.
  4. Keep recent bank statements and details of where you are staying in your hand luggage, Border Force officers may ask to see this information.
  5. Expect Border Force officers to ask simple questions about your stay in the UK when you arrive at passport control.
  6. Do not bring in any meat or dairy products from outside the European Union (EU). There are restrictions on traditional medicines, food products such as fish, eggs and honey, and some fruit, vegetables and plants (including bulbs, seeds, cut flowers and tree bark).
  7. There are also on the amount of tobacco, alcohol and gifts you can bring to the UK. If you exceed your duty-free allowance and do not declare them, all of your items could be taken away from you.
  8. Never bring in counterfeit goods, illegal drugs, offensive weapons or indecent or obscene material. and will require a licence or permit.
  9. (or the equivalent in another currency) if you are travelling from a country outside the EU.
  10. Never give false or misleading information (including forged or counterfeit documents).
